Designing Retractable Awnings with Advanced Media

There has been a number of advances in awning (Markisen) design and development over the last couple of decades, due in part to the influence of computer aided design (CAD) and related technologies.

Computers and digital media have had a major role to play in the awning industry, and have been particularly important in the design and development of retractableawning (Kassettenmarkise) structures. While most people may associate awnings with the low tech designs that are often seen over windows and doorways, a number of new developments has led to a proliferation of many new designs. The ability of people to automatically control awnings through motorized devices has had a big impact, along with the use of better and stronger materials for awning frames and coverings. There is no doubt that the success of the modern awning industry has been heavily influenced by developments in computer software and digital design.

Computers have a big role to play throughout the entire cycle of awning and marquee design and development, from the initial sketches that take place in a CAD software program right through to the promotion of awnings online. Even after the design, construction and promotional cycle has taken place, computer systems still have a big role to play in the actual use of retractable awning structures. Electrical motors are often hidden inside the roll bar of an awning, and wireless remote controls and wall mounted switches control the propulsion of the arms via small circuit boards and digital components. It is the design phase of construction however, where digital media and applications are needed most, and most modern awning products would not even make it off the factory floor if it were not for dedicated CAD applications and programmers.

Computer aided design programs come in a number of different sizes, and offer design on a number of distinct levels of complexity. Simple 2D design is often found on smaller applications, and large commercial titles can also tackle detailed and intricate 3D models as well. CAD software makes it much easier for production houses to tackle larger products, and also makes it more simple for them to increase their overall quality control. Digital media makes it easier for businesses to control their output and increase their overall efficiency, and a number of digital systems play an important role in the design and development of modern awning products.
